Saint-Hyacinthe-based musician and producer William Jourdain released Transit, his second Automatisme full-length for Constellation on 24 August. Jourdain is now sharing a video for centerpiece allbum track “Registrariat” alongside announcing some live dates in Québec coming up in mid-October.

Automatisme’s deft sonic shapeshifting is on full display in the track “Registrariat,” now freshly paired with this equally stunning video, where Jourdain has teamed up with artist Mathieu Pellerin (Fingo Productions) to draw on his expertise in time-lapse photographic documentation. Pellerin generates abstract visual renditions of Automatisme’s sound manipulations, creating what the pair call “post-landscapes.” Jourdain comments further: “”Registrariat’ brings you in a dynamic urban ride using various techniques of visual data abstraction in Modul8 software. We are at the frontier between realistic and digital architectures.”
Automatisme’s rhythmic electronic/glitch/drone takes its cues from minimalist electronic pioneers of the late ’90s and early 2000s: Pan Sonic/Maika Vainio, Alva Noto/Carsten Nicolia, Pole/~scape recordings, and the Raster-Noton catalog, to name a few. With nominal reliance on synthesizers, Jourdain uses site-specific field recordings as his starting point, transforming his source material into deliberate and elemental soundscapes of white and pink noise, spatial drone and methodically additive beats.
