Following the release of her acclaimed debut solo record Pools Of Light in May 2017, Thee Silver Mt. Zion violinist/composer Jessica Moss has been gracing stages with her mesmerizing and cathartic compositions throughout Canada and Europe. Moss played over 50 solo shows in the second half of 2017, including many headlining dates, support slots for Big|Brave (on whose latest album she also plays), Zu and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, a co-headlining tour with Ben Shame (Suuns), and festival appearances at Supersonic, Soy, Zemlika and Le Guess Who? among others.

Moss brings her stately, drone-inflected, highly expressive longform instrumental compositions for violin and electronics to the North American west coast for the first time in February 2018. These will be evenings of immersive, nuanced, emotive modern music well worth taking part in.

Moss’s live presentation of instrumental music from the Pools Of Light album is superb and something very special. She combines violin with live sampling and effects to construct mesmserizing longform post-classical compositions, influenced by mournful klezmer and near-eastern melodic modes, alternately underpinned by drone and contrapuntal elements, shot through with punk grit and distortion, accentuated by minimal but powerful use of vocals.

“A powerful solo effort…visceral and sometimes raw…in her hands, the violin becomes a bountiful source of adventurous possibilities. Though she’s clearly proven herself to be an invaluable team member in other projects, Pools Of Light makes the strongest of all possible cases for Moss’s credibility as a solo artist.”Textura

“A warm solemnity, like participating in a communal prayer… Pools of Light is not the music of hopeful victory, it is the music of a compassionate failure; of the realization that only in each other will we find the care and the fulfillment that our victory over nature never once provided.”A Closer Listen

“A despairing but cathartic experience…ambitious, expansive and dynamic. After receiving her musical gifts in the context of collaborative projects for so long, listeners should jump on this opportunity to hear her solo work.”Exclaim

“Pools of Light is a revelation.”Vancouver Sun
