Order the thrilling, powerful new chapter of the Coin Coin series on 180gLP, CD, or digital.

"Coin Coin Chapter Four: Memphis is like the other three Coin Coins inasmuch as it’s marked by a tumbling of psychic and cosmic ephemera... This effort, however, feels firmer, and more fulgid. The force of Roberts’ breath — first through the saxophone, all endurance and fits and starts; then through time, inflated and vivified — makes bold how much the retelling of history is a necessary game of survival." – Pitchfork (8.3)

"Despite all its mystery, memory also feels palpably alive in Roberts’s music: stories from the distant past are vested with a kind of heady impatience usually reserved for the present." – New York Times

"Free jazz acts as intervention rather than focus here, crashing into country fiddle, blues song and spoken word, as if each moment of nostalgia were violently ruptured by the complexities of today." – The Wire

"A thrillingly varied palette of sound… While the improvisation ethos of jazz presides over everything, Roberts has much broader interests, and she masterfully weaves them all together, in an ecstatic flow of emotion and sound given its spark by the human experience." – Bandcamp Daily

"Revelatory... It is a necessary, engaged art that bears repeated listening. Arguably, it is the strongest and most compelling of the Coin Coin releases thus far." – AllMusic

"An uncompromising sonic aesthetic also underpins Coin Coin Chapter Four: Memphis... part musical memoir, ancestral history, cathartic therapy and socio-political treatise, it skillfully blends avant-garde sounds with earthy blues and gospel elements to stunning effect." – Record Collector

"This is another incredible addition to Roberts’ Coin Coin project, and one can only assume that when the 12-album cycle is completed, it will be regarded as a singular masterpiece of twenty-first century sonic and narrative art." – The Quietus

"Memphis is 2019’s most essential American artwork and Coin Coin this decade’s most honest, vital artistic statement." – Spectrum Culture
