The Proposal

T. Griffin has composed scores for over 50 feature length films, including some of the most celebrated non-fiction films of the past decade. Notable titles include 2020 Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Boys State, the Academy-Award nominated Life, Animated and multiple festival award winners Quest, The Overnighters, and Welcome to Leith as well as the recently Oscar Shortlisted One of Us and Charm City. Griffin created scores for several documentary series, including Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s hit Love Fraud for Showtime, Jesse Moss' The Family for Netflix, and Unnatural Selection, also for Netflix. Griffin’s score for Jill Magid’s art-world docu-thriller The Proposal will be released on vinyl by Constellation in 2021.

In the performance and art world Griffin has composed and performed live film/music events with filmmakers including Sam Green, Jem Cohen, Brent Green and Esther Robinson. These shows have toured internationally and been presented by The Barbican, BAM Next Wave, The Walker Art Center, The Melt Down Festival, curated by David Byrne, Sonic Protest in Paris, Big Ears Festival, and as special performances at film festivals including Sundance, SANFIC (Chile), IF (Istanbul), BAFICI (Buenos Aires), London Film Festival, Ambulante (Mexico City). His score for Sam Green’s Por Vida was performed by the Kronos Quartet at their 2019 Kronos Festival. Griffin’s first major scoring commission was for legendary avant garde theater director Anne Bogart’s radical reinterpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at San Jose Repertory Theater.

In the music world, Griffin has released five albums as a solo artist and with the band The Quavers. He has worked with luminaries including Patti Smith, Vic Chesnutt, The Kronos Quartet, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Matana Roberts, Tim Hecker, Jaimie Branch and members of The Ex, Dirty Three, Fugazi and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, either as collaborators on his film scores, or in group musical collaborations.

Griffin was a fellow at the Sundance Composers' Lab in 2008, and has twice been nominated for Cinema Eye Honors for Original Music Score. He is based in Brooklyn, New York.
