Deadbeat (Scott Monteith) Interviews The Trinity Session Producer Peter J. Moore

Read an extensive conversation between Monteith and Peter J. Moore, the producer behind the Cowboy Junkies' legendary 1988 album The Trinity Session.

Last week we shared Deadbeat & Camara’s Trinity Remixed, a new EP that finds the Berlin-based duo rearranging the tracks “Mining For Gold” and “Working On A Building” from their splendid double LP Trinity Thirty. Two acid dub treatments of their versions of the Cowboy Junkies’ versions of two traditionals (yes that’s four dubsteps removed) showcase Deadbeat’s trademark dancefloor sensibility, while Camara’s remix of “Mining For Gold” swirls with solemn gothic atmosphere. The Trinity Remixed EP is available as a free bonus download with purchases of Deadbeat & Camara’s Trinity Thirty from our webshop and Bandcamp, or purchase it separately for $3 (or more) on Bandcamp – where 100% of digital revenues are being passed through by Constellation directly to artists throughout the month of April, for increased support during the novel coronvirus shutdown.

As savvy fans already know, Trinity Thirty is a tribute to the classic Cowboy Junkies album The Trinity Session in honour of its 30th anniversary. Deadbeat & Camara rearranged the tracks from the original recording, infusing their new interpretations with gauzy, quavering, reverberant slowcore vibes, where clouds of textured drone and hushed vocals drift through cavernous space and long decays gently warp and distort the melodic vocal lines and the insistently languid percussion.

Following the release of Trinity Thirty, Deadbeat (Scott Monteith) arranged a special interview with Peter J. Moore, the producer who recorded the original Cowboy Junkies album. The resulting conversation is a detailed glimpse into the creation of both albums, digging into their instrumentation, recording techniques, and much more. The interview transcript is now available on our site, and it’s a deeply enlightening feature for both Cowboy Junkies and Deadbeat & Camara fans alike. Read it here:
